‘Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-‘ Latest Trailer Takes All Challengers [Video]

The latest Guilty Gear Xrd trailer is here.

This almost obscure Japanese-style cell-shaded fighting game hasn’t seen the greatest history, but with the resurgence of other fighting games making their way back to the spotlight, Guilty Gear Xrd (subtitled -Sign-) might just see a comeback. The game itself is set in the year 2187, a year after the events in Guilty Gear Overture, and features nine characters in a weapon-based brawl for dominance.

Certainly flashy and stylized, PlayStation 3 and PS4 exclusive Guilty Gear Xrd could end up taking on the biggest titles like Street Fighter IV, Mortal Kombat, and the modernized reboot of Killer Instinct recently featured on The Inquisitr. In the absence of a new Soul Calibur or Samurai Shodown, Arc System Works Team Red may just have a hit for gamers craving weapon-based one-on-one combat. Among the fighters in Guilty Gear Xrd are Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, Millia Rage, May, Chipp Zanuff, Potemkin, Venom, Axl Low, and I-No.

The new trailer for Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- begins with a zoom-out from a skylight as we get a view of what appears to be a temple with water flowing through columns. A man in a blue cape with blue-striped socks and a helmet runs up as his opponent bares his sword. The opponent has blond hair and no helmet. Another fighter appears with spiky black hair, white pants, a red sword, and shoes to match.

The trailer introduces this latter fighter as Sol Badguy in stenciled letters. Next we see Chipp Zanuff with spiky white hair and a semi-sleeveless shirt. After him we see an enthusiastic girl with a big red hat and a long-handled weapon, whose name appears to be May. Then we have a hulking guy in almost full armor with red cross emblems, and he appears to be Potemkin. The rest of the fighters are introduced in a similar manner before the fighting gameplay takes the center stage with some rock music.

The Guilty Gear Xrd trailer announces that Sega will release this ambitious fighting game on the Sony consoles in 2014. Give us your impressions of the trailer in the comments below.
