Bill Nye The Dancing Guy? Science Guru Joins DWTS

Bill Nye The Science Guy has been knocking around in recent years advocating for (what else?) science literacy, but everyone needs to do the downtime thing once in a while — and the man who made science fun for many 90s kids has a new gig, on Dancing With The Stars.

This upcoming Dancing With The Stars cast not only features Bill Nye, but Jersey Shore‘s Snooki, the recovering Valerie Harper, and other strange dancefloor fellows in the reality cut-a-rug competition.

Harper was announced earlier than Nye, and the cancer survivor is upbeat despite her serious medical issues.

Now 74, Valerie explains:

“I feel much better… And my brain scans are looking better too. The doctors tell me there’s less evidence of cancer, which is very unusual. However, they both say it’s not a case of if, but when. And I can live with that.”

While Bill Nye and other celebs like Bill Engvall have formed and eclectic DWTS mix this season, other changes should be of note to fans as well — most notably, a move from twice to once weekly.

ABC’s Paul Lee says:

“We really wanted to focus and event-ize Dancing With the Stars… I know [executive producer] Conrad [Green] is having a whole lot of fun contracting a night on Monday that not only gives you the dances but the results. Effectively what we’re doing is we’re taking the votes from the judges and the votes from the audience and bringing them together at the end. Conrad has worked through a really interesting two hours. It builds to a climax at the end.”

The list of DWTS pairs announced is:

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Sasha Farber
Valerie Harper and Tristan McManus
Elizabeth Berkley and Valentin Chmerkovskiy
Amber Riley and Derek Hough
Keyshawn Johnson and Sharna Burgess
Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff
Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani
Christina Milian and Mark Ballas
Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein
Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd
Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke
Bill Engvall and Emma Slater

Nye tweeted:

In the above tweet, one Bill Nye fan clearly isn’t pleased with his DWTS turn — do you think it’s a strange choice for the science superstar?
