New York weather anchor Heidi Jones in hot water over false rape claim

Heidi Jones, a weatherwoman with WABC in New York, was arrested and charged with filing a false report after police say she lied about an alleged rape attempt in Central Park.

According to the New York Post, Jones concocted a story of an assault while jogging:

Jones, 37, told cops she was jogging in the park on the afternoon of Sept. 24 when a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s grabbed her from behind, dragged her into a wooded area and attempted to rape her… She told police that the would-be rapist was scared off by two passers-by who came to her aid.

However, police say, further examination revealed Jones’ story was full of inconsistencies. One such red flag was that Jones waited two months to report the alleged assault, and when police failed to turn up further evidence of the incident, they confronted her about the allegations. Jones admitted that she had fabricated the story to deflect unspecified personal turmoil in her life. If convicted of the charge, Jones faces up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
