‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’ Six New Character Images

If you are a fan of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, you are in luck and should be very happy today. Metro Goldwyn Mayer has released six new character stills.

The stills include Evangeline Lilly (Tauriel), Luke Evans (Bard the Bowman), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Lee Pace (Thranduil), Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), and the rest of the characters we saw in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Some promotion is already beginning as summer ends and the studio gets ready to fully put Peter Jackson’s new installment out there.

In the second part of the story we see how “after successfully crossing over (and under) the Misty Mountains, Thorin and Company must seek aid from a powerful stranger before taking on the dangers of Mirkwood Forest–without their Wizard. If they reach the human settlement of Lake-town it will be time for the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins to fulfill his contract with the Dwarves. The party must complete the journey to Lonely Mountain and burglar Baggins must seek out the Secret Door that will give them access to the hoard of the dragon Smaug. And, where has Gandalf got off to? And what is his secret business to the south?”

The images show new and old characters. Bard the Bowman, Tauriel, Legolas, and Thranduil were not seen in the first installment, so fans are more than anxious to take a peek. And boy was it worth the wait!

Comicbookmovie.com has put together a summary of events. Spoilers to follow, so keep reading at your own risk.

-The company of dwarves is chased by Beorn, because he doesn’t like dwarves, but when he finds out that they’re running away from Azog, he agrees to help them, since most in his race were killed by him.

– Thranduil has ordered that the elves are not allowed to leave the forest, and they’re not to have anything to do with any other race, in particular the dwarves.

– When Thorin and his dwarves are captured, after Thranduil correctly guesses that they are going to find the lost treasure hidden in the Lonely Mountain, he wants part of the bounty. However, Thorin refuses, so he imprisons them.

– When the dwarves make their escape in barrels they are followed by the Elves, including Tauriel that likes them well enough. She defies Thranduil’s orders not to leave the forest and follows them to Laketown along with Legolas.

– Bard discovers the dwarves as they wash up in their barrels and decides he can trust them and take them to Laketown.

– Bard has three children: Bain, Sigrid, and Tilda.

As you can see there is no image of Smaug. Not yet. Peter Jackson is keeping that very close to his chest and we have to wait for a little longer to take a better look.

More information and images should start trickling in in the following months, ahead of the December 13 release date of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.
