‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Star Chris Pratt: Marvel Crossover Movie ‘Would Be Really Cool’

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is keeping his hopes up that characters from his film will appear in other movies in the Marvel Universe.

Speculation about a crossover between Guardians and other Marvel movies has run rampant since the former was announced, and director James Gunn said there was a hope that all of the characters could eventually meet up. Gunn also said Guardians has some similarities to other Marvel films, but that it also had some major differences.

“In terms of a lot of stuff we’re very much like The Avengers, where it’s a very big, huge movie. It’s different because it’s cosmic, it’s in outer space, it’s very colorful,” he said. “We have a whole history of science fiction behind us that we’re dealing with, and borrowing from, and also fighting with to create something unique. But at the same time there’s a lot of stuff it has in common with The Avengers.”

Gunn also said that, just because he mentioned sharing the screen with Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. didn’t mean that his character would appear in the film.

“That just means that all our movies are connected, we’re created in a way that we’re very connected to the movies that came before us, we’re even more connected to The Avengers 2, that comes after us, and so in that respect, what we would hope is that these characters would continue, and that at some point in time they’ll all meet up with different characters throughout the galaxy,” he said.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon, on the other hand, said it was very unlikely there would be a crossover between his film and Guardians.

“We’re following Guardians at Shepperton [with Avengers 2] but we won’t be swapping cast members,” Whedon said. “Every movie is its own thing and has to be. Unless I take a lot of peyote and write a very different draft, and I’m not ruling that out.”

Still, Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, the leaders of the Guardians, believed there was still a possibility that characters from his film could make their way into other Marvel movies, or vice versa.

“Man, that would be really cool. What’s nice is that it is all the same universe,” he said. “Because it falls under the Marvel umbrella, there is the possibility, just like in the comic books, that these stories could intersect.”

Pratt, who also stars on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, said it has been great filming Guardians, and that there are really talented artists working on the film.

“So to see that, as they did making these comic books, they’ve hired the best artists in the world to do the concept artwork and to design these worlds,” he said. “It’s so imaginative and so unreal. We’re working really hard and I’m in a bit of a daze, but I just can’t wait for people to see what we’re doing out there.”

Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to be released August 1, 2014.
