Amazon now buying your second-hand games

Amazon has plunged into the hugely profitable waters of second-hand video games, offering consumers the chance to sell their old games in exchange for Amazon credit.

With pre-owned games making up 50% of the profits generated by the likes of GameStop, other companies have recently begun to smell a serious money-making opportunity.

It’s all very simple to do: you send your games off to Amazon with a special pre-paid delivery label, and the site will email to confirm whether your game is in acceptable condition or not. If so, you get Amazon credit added to your account immediately. If your game is damaged, however, it’ll be sent back, which takes up to two weeks, or even thrown out.

As for what they’re offering, well, it seems quite par for the course, currently – in line with what its high street rivals are providing. Furthermore, the site will only accept three trade-ins from you in three months – a bizarre limit, but one that suggests this is still at the ‘experiment’ stage.
