Selena Gomez Charms ‘Getaway’ Premiere With Ethan Hawke [Video]

Selena Gomez charmed the red carpet at the premiere of her new movie Getaway just 24 hours after winning the Best Pop Video award at MTV’s Video Music Awards in Brooklyn, New York.

Ditching her VMA Versace for a structured, Vera Wang cocktail dress with butterfly peplum, rose-jacquard bodice and lace detail, the 21-year-old looked stylish as she arrived with co-star Ethan Hawke at the Regency Theater in LA’s Westwood on Monday.

The starlet completed her ensemble with patterned stilettos and a loose up-do.

At one point Selena stuck her tongue out at the crowd and seemed to mimic Miley Cyrus’ tasteless VMA performance on Sunday — which, the Latina has said she “loved” — so perhaps there is a wild aspect of Gomez waiting to get out.

In Getaway, the actress-singer continues her shift away from her former Disney appeal previously seen in Spring Breakers and takes on the role of a thief called “The Kid.”

Together with Hawke — who plays “Brent Magna” an ex-race car driver considered too fast for the sport — the pair are forced to take on a series of dangerous tasks by Jon Voight (“The Voice”) in order to save Magna’s kidnapped wife.

Selena appeared to downplay her move into more adult territory, telling the Chicago Sun-Times:

“Doing grown-up film roles is not me breaking out of anything,” she insists. “It’s just about me being passionate about the acting roles that I choose to do.”

She added: “I really do sit down and think, ‘What do the fans want? What will they like?’ My fans mean so much to me. I think they’re really waiting to see what else I can do as an actress. They want to see me jump into characters that have real issues.”

Gomez has described Hawke as a mentor who she literally took notes from on set and made her dig deeper into her role. “It was like acting class,” she told the New York Daily News.

In her personal life, too, it looks as if the young star really has moved on from her on-off boyfriend Justin Bieber.

She also told the Daily News she was no longer interested in so-called bad boys. “I understand [the attraction], but I don’t suggest it,” she said.

“A nerdy guy that wears the same flannel every day, I think that’s really cute. That’s attractive to me, that kind of vibe.”

In fact, these days Selena claims she’s more interested in older guys as well as nerds. Specifically, George Clooney.

Recently asked by E! News who she had a celebrity crush on, she replied: “Well I once said (Percy Jackson star) Logan Lerman but now it’s George Clooney.”

The Courtney Solomon directed Getaway opens in theaters on August 30.
