‘Divergent’ Reveals A First Look At Shailene Woodley In Starring Role

It’s hard to see where Divergent will fall in the slew of Young Adult novels adapted for the big screen. Will it be as successful as The Hunger Games, or will it fail to impress like Beautiful Creatures and The Mortal Instruments? Only time will tell, but if the trailer is any indication it looks like a sure hit.

Summit was pretty smart to premiere the first look during MTV’s VMA awards. It’s the film’s main demographic, and will surely get other people who tuned in interested in the new blockbuster film. From the looks of it, Divergent looks more like Hunger Games, than anything the creators of Beautiful Creatures whipped up.

The official synopsis for Divergent is as follows:

“DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late. DIVERGENT is based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.”

For those not familiar with the book series, Summit has made a clever visual poster to explain some of the “world” aspect behind the film. Not to skip a beat, the poster also includes a Divergent hash tag to get the ball rolling on the buzz for the film.

In addition to Shailene Woodley starring, the film also stars Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, and Zoë Kravitz.

Other than Divergent, Shailene Woodley can currently be seen alongside Miles Teller in The Spectacular Now. In a few weeks Woodley is gearing up to star alongside Divergent co-star Ansel Elgort in The Fault in Our Stars.

Divergent hits theaters on March 21, 2014.
