Deena Cortese Trading Reality TV Stardom For New Career

Jersey Shore star Deena Cortese wants to be a singer.

The 26-year-old has mostly remained out of the public eye (and presumably, handcuffs) since the popular MTV series came to a close last December, but announced plans to reintroduce herself as a music artist.

In a YouTube video titled “Following My Dreams” posted last Friday, Cortese announced her new career path by showing herself travel to New York and walk into a recording studio.

She says: “I know a lot of people think of me as just a one-dimensional TV character… I think of all the doors that the show has opened for me, especially this and giving me the courage to pursue something that I love. I know everybody is going to be like, ‘Oh, she’s just a party girl.’ But there’s also this other side I would love to show people. And I’m ready to pursue what’s next for me. And for me, that’s singing. I really want to sing, and finally I got the courage to just do it. I’m just doing this for myself. I’m giving it a shot. I’m going for it. I’m excited.”

There’s no word on when Deena’s music will come out, but she says “very soon.”

She isn’t the first Jersey Shore star to attempt to leverage her reality TV career into one in music. Vinny Guadagnino, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, Pauly D and Angelina Pivarnick have all released singles, but failed to generate any real fanfare.

But beyond “can she pull it off,” we’re actually wondering “will she stick with it?”

Seems like less than a year ago, Cortese was working on a clothing and hair product line, and wanted to be a designer. What happened to that dream, Deena?
