Taunton Mayor Thomas Hoye Jr. said that the plane was “dismantled” after the crash.

Hoye Jr. said: “My heart goes out to the family. It’s a tragedy. This is the first tragedy we’ve had here in recent memory.”

The cause of the crash isn’t known at this time but Hoy said that there may have been a problem with the plane.

Hoye said: “There was potentially some malfunction with the plane.”

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said that the crash was under investigation and did not speculate on the cause of the crash. The Taunton Plane crash involved a single-engine plane but officials could not identify the exact model.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims. Taunton police said that they were working to notify the victims’ families before releasing the names of the two people killed in the crash.
