Kelly Clarkson Cancels Wedding, Decides To Elope
Shortly after saying she was “so over” planning, Kelly Clarkson has canceled her wedding to Brandon Blackstock. The couple have decided to elope instead.
“We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope,'” Clarkson told People. “We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions.”
The 31-year-old also said that they sent out a save-the-date for their October wedding, and the details started leaking.
Clarkson said she and Blackstock broke the news to friends and family when they sent out their engagement photos. The couple got engaged last December. Blackstock is the son of Clarkson’s longtime manager, Narvel Blackstock, who is married to Reba McEntire.
“[We] said, ‘Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister,” she said.
It’s understandable that Clarkson is overwhelmed. She is currently working on a Christmas album and is starting a new partnership with State Farm. She is also helping take care of Blackstock’s two children from a previous marriage, a 6-year-old and a 12-year-old. The children live with her and Blackstock, and she said she “actually really dig[s] the mom thing.”
Clarkson explained that she and Blackstock didn’t really want the wedding to be a huge affair, but preferred something more private.

“Our whole life is a celebration. That’s what we kept laughing about. We don’t need another day where we throw a big party,” she said. “Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.'”
Clarkson also said that a friend was throwing the couple a “stock the bar” party because they are about to finish the construction on their house. She said all the people who were going to be at the wedding will be there.
