Mascara Ad Gets Racy In Hopes Of Getting A Laugh

Benefit Cosmetics’ slogan for their new mascara ad is “laughter is the best cosmetic,” but does their new online ad take it a little too far?

The ad is for Benefit Cosmetics’ “They’re Real” mascara, and, just as the slogan says, the company is aiming to get a chuckle out of viewers.

While many may criticize the ad for it’s sexual nature, just watch and see where the mascara is placed in this ad before being thrown out to the ogling women. The company is honestly trying to get a laugh.

Why does this ad take such a racy turn? Creative studio Portal A Digital Strategist, Jessica Muniz Schiffman told the Inquisitr that the video takes this road “all in hopes of breaking the mold of the traditional beauty ad.”

What is a traditional beauty ad? Just look at any magazine or makeup commercial on television.

In most of these ads, viewers see some supermodel or actress prancing around wearing whatever brand they are promoting.

How is this ad different? Yes, they use women, and they are pretty okay looking, but they use men to draw in their viewers.

This ad is targeted towards an online audience, so how do they draw in their crowd?

The video features Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino, Simon Rex (Dirt Nasty) and one of the first stars on Vine, Brittany Furlan.

The video, which can be found on Benefit Cosmetic’s Youtube Channel, was shot in LA by the creative studio, Portal A.

Schiffman went on to say the following:

This ad is part of Benefit Cosmetics’ many efforts to steer clear from interruptive advertising and into branded content that makes people laugh, going along with their tagline: “laughter is the best cosmetic.”

Schiffman did say that there will also be a sequel to this video, also for “They’re Real” mascara. Will you be checking it out after watching this video entitled Real Men Don’t Fake It?

So do you think this mascara ad is getting too racy in hopes of getting a laugh? Check out the video below for yourself and tell us what you think.
