Slane Girl Photos Prompt Police Investigation, Land Teenage Girl In Hospital

A few explicit photographs of a young girl performing oral sex at an Eminem concert at Slane Castle have been circulating online today. The police are currently investigating the photos while the 17-year-old, known only as Slane Girl, has reportedly become so distraught that she had to be sedated at the hospital.

The Inquisitr reported earlier that Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites have been working to have the Slane Girl photos removed. Still, the explicit photos are available at many locations on the internet.

A spokesman for Twitter said: “When we are made aware of links to images of or content promoting child sexual exploitation they will be removed from the site without further notice and reported to the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). We permanently suspend accounts promoting or containing updates with links to child sexual exploitation.”

A Facebook spokesperson added: “We have built a large and highly trained team of safety experts who review these reports and take action, including escalating serious cases to the police.”

Police are looking into the Slane Girl photos but it’s unclear what legal actions they can take. The young girl in the photos is 17 which is the age of consent in the Republic of Ireland.

A police spokesman said: “Gardai are aware of the incident and are inquiring into the matter. Gardai have spoken to the female involved and it would be inappropriate for us to comment any further.”

The Slane Girl photos may not constitute child pornography, but they have started a debate about sexism, slut shaming, and internet bullying. The 17-year-old has been the victim of several hideous comments and is apparently so shaken from the incident that she had to be sedated at the hospital.

A source close to the girl said: “This is a very sensitive matter and the girl’s family are distraught. This is so out of character for her. She’s currently very emotional and confused about the whole thing.”

Scott Freeman, the founder of charity Cybersmile, said that the power of the internet can quickly destroy someone’s life. The Slane Girl photos are a perfect example of how one decision can cause “destruction.”

Freeman said: “This particular problem is a big one, and it is growing… With the power of the internet, this is one example of how its immediate reach can cause huge destruction. It’s almost impossible to protect against it, because anyone can take a picture of anyone and share it.”

Ian Power, communications manager with youth group Spunout, agreed saying that technology today makes it incredibly easy to document regretful behavior. Power said that everyone makes mistakes but only some of us have them broadcast all over the internet.

Power said: “This is content which should never have been recorded, let alone placed on the internet… Everyone has made mistakes in their lives, but not everyone has had it so horrifically documented in such a mortifying way. The conversation online has been overwhelming misogynistic also. Some people seem to be regarding this as funny, or banter, when it is not.”
