Tom Cruise wears a thong when he is filming action scenes, as they provide him with "comfort and flexibility."
The blockbuster star's bizarre attire choice was revealed by a source close to Cruise. The 51-year-old allegedly demands thongs that are made from stretchy and soft material, and they allow him to be unrestricted when he performs action sequences and stunts.
The insider told the Daily Star, "There aren't many movies where you don't see Tom rolling around on the ground or, doing a back flip off the side of a skyscraper. Over the years it's taken its toll and he had his wardrobe department rustle him up a comfy thong."
They went on to say, "He was embarrassed at first but he sees it as a way of, improving his flexibility as he gets older."
The source for the newspaper then concluded, "He's pretty insistent about having a new thong every time. We do have a laugh but he sees it as dedication to his craft."
Apparently Cruise decided to wear this type of underwear after he started to feel uncomfortable when performing stunts on sets as he grew older.
The Daily Star also added that costume designers and wardrobe staff were asked to amass over 50 thongs for the Mission Impossible star whenever he is on set.
Earlier this month, Tom Cruise signed on for another edition to the Mission: Impossible franchise. He will be joined by Christopher McQuarrie, who Cruise worked with on Jack Reacher.
In a statement, the Top Gun actor remarked, "I am thrilled to reunite with Chris for the latest instalment in the Mission series. I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one. Chris is an extraordinary filmmaker who will deliver the heart-pounding action and thrills that audiences around the world have come to expect from the Mission: Impossible franchise."
