Donald Glover, best known for Community, a surprisingly lucrative music career, and irreverent stand up comedy, has created a short film. And it’s unexpectedly disturbing… and good.
“Clapping For The Wrong Reasons” stars Glover, who is also the writer and executive producer. As Vulture points out, that’s about where “what we know” ends. “We don’t know why it exists, what the context is,” writes Zach Dionne.
But Dionne points out the the film is “stunningly watchable, somber and visually luscious in equal portions.”
We have to agree. The 24-minute film rings as deeply personal and independent of anything else Donald Glover has done. The director’s cut of the film was published on YouTube on August 15, and has nearly 10,000 hits from confused but impressed watchers.
Some highlights: The film also stars Daniel Fishel, rappers Trinidad Jame$ and Chance the Rapper, as well as someone Dionne refers to as a “mysterious woman played by a porn star.”
We’re a little ashamed to admit it, but we know exactly who that porn star is. It’s Abella Anderson, ranked by Compex magazine as eighth on a list of “The Top 100 Hottest Porn Stars Right Now.”
It’s a weird, mysterious, and absolutely engaging piece of work. Bookmark it and watch it sometime over the weekend. If you’re a Community fan, you won’t see anything resembling Troy here, but you’ll be surprised nonetheless.
