‘Grand Theft Auto Online’ Gameplay Trailer Hits [Video]

Grand Theft Auto Online has just landed a gameplay trailer.

Grand Theft Auto, even though it didn’t entirely start as such, helped make open-world gameplay the new norm. It paved the way for such games as Prototype, Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs, and inFamous. As the popularity of the series continued, so did the controversy surrounding it. Grand Theft Auto had become a popular target for politicians trying to get violent video games banned or more heavily regulated.

In the end, Grand Theft Auto proved that we could have fun without the game forcing us to go in any particular direction.

As the series progressed, Grand Theft Auto gave us more varied weapons, vehicles, and missions, all in the name of taking over the criminal empires of fictional cities created to resemble real ones.

Grand Theft Auto Online takes the series in the next inevitable direction, allowing the game to be the center of interaction between multiple players across the internet.

The gameplay trailer for Grand Theft Auto Online begins with in-game footage and a female voice-over, “With Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar Games is looking to bring the Grand Theft Auto experience to a living online world with multiple players. Just what you do in that world is up to you.”

We then see the game’s title screen before the voice-over continues:

“The game combines a persistent and continually expanding world full of personalities, with a wide array of redesigned mechanics, and a huge range of both structured and unstructured activities for you to do. After you fly into Los Santos, you’re introduced to the world and its many opportunities for earning and spending money, having fun, and getting into trouble.”

The video shows us several examples of what could be possible in Grand Theft Auto Online, including a tennis court, riding a quad off a cliff and parachuting down, and even arm-wrestling your friends for money or possibly just street cred. You can also join your friends for a bank heist if you wish.

Just don’t act out the illegal parts of the game in real life.

What do you think of the Grand Theft Auto Online gameplay trailer?
