Judge Judy’s Son: Is Adam Levy Guilty Of Involvement In Rape Case?

Judge Judy’s son, Adam Levy, who is a Putnam County District Attorney, has filed a defamation suit against local Sheriff Donald B. Smith for $5 million.

Levy is accused by Sheriff Smith of interfering in a rape case involving a 13-year-old girl. Levy says he was not involved with the case, which saw legal action taken against his personal trainer Alexandru Hossu, an illegal immigrant from Romania.

Sheriff Smith said: “He is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official duties and perhaps even as an attempt to undermine it. My office acted properly in every aspect of the investigation.”

Smith and Levy seem to be having quite a feud over the case, though the two men have already exchanged numerous harsh words in public, most recently involving a dispute over traffic tickets. The rape case itself involves accusations against Hossu, aged 35, who was arrested a week ago on charges that he raped the minor twice back in 2010.

The Sheriff said that the victim, who is now 15, only very recently came forward with the allegations against the personal trainer, saying she had been raped by him. Hossu was in court on Tuesday and is due back there on May 7th.

As Hossu had been living at the Levy family residence, the initial press release from the Sheriff’s office stated the Levy address as the permanent address of the accused. Levy said that this was incorrect and that Hossu did not live with him during the specific dates when the rapes allegedly occurred.

Sheriff Smith spoke harshly about Judge Judy’s son’s relationship with his personal trainer:

“In my view, Mr. Levy’s comments and actions would seem to suggest that, if he could have his own way, Mr. Hossu would never have been brought to justice for his crime and Mr. Levy’s relationship with him would never have been brought to the light of public scrutiny,” he suggested that Levy was trying to distract attention: “from what this case is really about: the vicious rape of a little girl by a man whom he housed and hired as his personal fitness trainer.”

The Sheriff also noted that Hossu was in the country illegally, as his work visa had expired more than 12 years ago. He said that he had requested a federal investigation into whether anyone had: “harbored, shielded, aided or abetted” the accused man at the time of the alleged rapes.

Adam Levy’s mum, the famous courtroom TV star, Judge Judy Sheindlin, released a statement through her spokesman, Gary Rosen: “The sole focus of this story should be the investigation as to whether a young girl was the victim of a very serious crime.”
