Harry Styles would like to apologize for twerking.
The One Direction star took the spotlight on Sunday at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards when hosts Lucy Hale and Darren Criss encouraged him to show off some moves. Wearing tight jeans and a button-down shirt, Harry did his best to move his hips up and down and give his booty a shake.
Maybe he was caught up in the heat of the moment, or maybe he was inspired by fellow twerking pop star Miley Cyrus, but, for whatever reason, the 19-year-old British boy bander put his hands on his hips and shook them the best he could.
The end result was less than inspiring, but it did elicit some laughs from friend Ed Sheeran and bandmate Zayn Malik, who were sitting nearby.
It was a good night otherwise for Harry Styles. He won awards for Top Hottie and Best Smile, while his group One Direction took home awards for Choice Summer Tour, Choice Group, Choice Single for “Live While We’re Young,” and Choice Love Song for “Little Things.”
But afterward, all anyone seemed to care about was that somewhat sorry attempt at twerking
Within just minutes of Harry Styles unleashing the “twerk heard around the world,” the impromptu dance was a big hit on Twitter and other social media. There were hundreds of GIFs and videos made, and the topic #HarryDroppedThatThunThunThun trended on Twitter.
“@Harry_Styles: Note to self. Don’t ‘twerk’.”

But clearly Harry Styles seemed to regret the twerk. Later on in the night he took to Twitter, vowing to never again attempt the booty-shaking dance move.

Ed Sheeran also had a message at home to the kids — don’t try to be like Harry Styles.
One more note, people need to stop encouraging little kids to twerk, it’s odd
