Google axes employee who leaked 10% raise news to media

Despite generating a ton of positive press about Google’s treatment of their employees, the person responsible for leaking news of Google-wide 10% raises won’t be receiving the benefit after all- he or she was axed by the search engine giant for blabbing to the media.

Google declined to comment on the specifics behind the termination, saying only:

“While we don’t typically comment on internal matters, we do believe that competitive compensation plans are important to the future of the company,” Google’s spokesman said in a prepared statement.

Kind of a strange and sad turn of events, given the newly-inspired wave of Google-employee envy widespread publicization of the story invoked. As for the holiday bonus of $1,000, it’s unclear whether the employee was granted at least that before their keycard was deactivated. Staff was notified of the termination “a few hours”after it occurred, so it isn’t surprising that Google staffers are being tight lipped about the details they may know.
