Veterans eligible for myriad Veterans Day discounts tomorrow

Tomorrow, November 11th, is Veterans Day in the United States, and several chains have opted to honor the holiday by offering freebies or discounts to vets.

An email I received today from Outback trumpeted a free “Bloomin’ Onion” and non-alcoholic beverage of choice if you can produce a military ID. Fellow wings and beer slinging chain Applebee’s is doing them one better, serving up free meals to vets in many locations. The Long Island Press spoke to a local franchisee about the promotion:

“It’s an honor to host this event each year. It helps the neighborhood come together and say ‘thanks’ to our veterans and active servicemen and women,” said Kurt Pahlitzsch, Director of Operations for Applebee’s Long Island. “We feel a special connection to everyone who wears or has worn our nation’s uniform to protect our freedoms. We’re proud of their courage and happy to have this opportunity to offer a great meal with our compliments.”

Yet another chain, Chili’s, is also offering free meals and barbeque chain Famous Dave’s is offering varied discounts at several of their locations, the details of which are available on their website. For dessert, Krispy Kreme locations are giving free donuts to vets. And vets with kids can get a free child’s meal with the purchase of any adult entree at their locations nationwide.
