Derek Medina: No Bail For Facebook Killer

Derek Medina has been denied bail after apparently murdering his wife and posting a picture of her corpse to Facebook.

Appearing shackled before Miami Judge Maria Elena Verde a day after the death of his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, Medina was ordered held without bond pending his arraignment set for 21 days from now. If convicted of first degree murder, he could face the death sentence, reports NBC News.

On Thursday, Medina posted a photograph of his dead wife on Facebook, which showed her slumped over and covered in blood. He wrote:

“I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys, Miss you guys… My wife was punching me, and I am not going to stand any more with the abuse so I did what I did. I hope u understand me.”

The story went viral and the grisly image, confirmed as authentic by authorities, remained public for several hours before his page was shut down.

In the days that followed, it was revealed that Medina had written six advice books online, which focused on the topics of marriage and relationships.

Despite this, Medina and Alfonso did divorce after getting married in 2010. They remarried again in 2012, a few months after their divorce. Medina’s father said that their relationship was always contentious, and that he believes his son acted in self-defense.
