Pat Robertson: Video Game Murder And Real-Life Murder Are The Same Thing [Video]

Pat Robertson is obviously the best source to talk about video games. After all, what 83-year-old doesn’t understand the ins and outs of video game playing.

Recently, the often controversial preacher spoke on The 700 Club about video games and violence. A show viewer asked the following question:

“What do you think the Bible has to say about video games? Is there a way to interpret the Bible for ‘virtual sins’? I’m not the type of person to do half of the things in games in real life. But does god see it as a sin if we enjoy them in a virtual setting?”

It’s obviously impossible to draw a direct link from the Bible to a modern video game scenario… wait, what’s that you say? Pat Robertson has made the connection? Here’s what he has to say about immoral game play:

If you’re murdering somebody in cyberspace, in a sense you’re performing the act.”

Pat Robertson then adds that violent video games, books, TV, and movies hurt worshippers because “you lose your sensitivity to God.”

Robertson adds: “[Y]ou will grow dead in your heart. That’s the danger of all of this.”

Techdirt‘s Timothy Geigner assumes the preacher isn’t just talking about real-life shooters like Grand Theft Auto. Geigner writes:

“Think of the number of animal abuse charges that could be leveled at me for all those turtles I stomped on in Super Mario Bros.”

This isn’t the first time Pat Robertson has attacked games. In April 2013, he said, “Dungeon’s and Dragon’s destroys lives.” Here’s the video from his D&D rant:

In Pat Robertson’s world, you aren’t allowed to have fun. I’m sure he would have some pretty mean things to say about the greed of taking someone’s homes and hotels during a rousing game of Monopoly. Don’t even get me started about the dangers of indulging in the sweets found inside Candy Land.
