Anastasia Ashley’s Pre-Surf Twerking Delights The Internet [Video]

Anastasia Ashley’s pre-surfing warm-up video has taken the internet by storm. The video was uploaded to YouTube yesterday and show the pro surfer getting in the groove before competing at the Supergirl Pro surfing contest at Oceanside Pier.

In the video, Ashley is seen twerking — a fancy word for a dance move that jiggles your butt. And we have to admit that the pro surfer could certainly give Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj a run for their money.

Anastasia Ashley’s warm-up routine was immediately compared to that of hurdler Michelle Jenneke. The Olympian became an internet star last year when viewers saw her peppy dance routine before a race.

While the viral video is already enough to make Ashley famous, it’s also worth noting that she did well at the competition. Anastasia won her first heat and made the round of 72, reports The Huffington Post.

The pro surfer also took second in the Pipeline Women’s Pro shortboard division in March and came in third at the Honda American Pro Surfing Series last year. Perhaps indicative of her pre-race warmup, Anastasia also boasts a workout video and very busy Instagram account.

The twerking clip was uploaded on August 6 by Vidhuntr and currently has more than 222,000 views. But there’s more to Anastasia Ashley than her fantastic pre-race twerking routine.

ESPN notes that the 26-year-old has been surfing for 20 years and taught herself using her guy friends’ surfboards. While she failed at several sports before, surfing came naturally to her. And she wanted to do it all the time. But for that to happen, Anastasia needed her own surfboard.

Her mother couldn’t afford to buy one, but Ashley came across an abandoned surfboard in front of a trash can one day. The board, which had seen several better days, was the one that helped her sign up for her first surf contest — which she won. She began surfing five to eight hours per day and picked up a sponsor who replaced her board with a few much better ones.

So, while watching the video above, keep in mind twerking surfer Anastasia Ashley is more than a good dancer — she’s a pretty good surfer too.
