Obama on Leno; Says Americans Should ‘Show Some Common Sense’ [Video]

Obama on Leno was the forum that the president’s advisers thought would be the best way for him to talk to the American public about current security issues.

The Tonight Show provides a friendly, comfortable, and informal atmosphere in which to present serious matters in non-serious manner. And he did just that in his reference to the possibility of an imminent al-Qaeda attack on American interests.

Obama told Leno that the threat was “significant enough that we’re taking every precaution.” He added that Americans could carry on with summer travel plans abroad in spite of global travel warnings. But he cautioned they should “show some common sense” and understand that some countries are more dangerous than others.

As a precaution, nineteen U.S. embassies and consulates in 16 countries have been ordered closed to the public until Saturday.

The President is no stranger to talk shows; this was his sixth visit to Jay Leno’s show, but he’s also spent time with David Letterman, John Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, The View, and other similar shows.
