Harrison Ford Still Interested In Indiana Jones 5, Has Been Saying That A Lot Lately

Mellow as he is, we think that Harrison Ford must secretly really really really want to do another Indiana Jones movie.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the 71-year-old was enthusiastic as ever for another outing under his famous fedora.

“We’ve seen the character develop and grow over a period of time and it’s perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn’t necessarily have to kick as much ass,” he said.

This doesn’t seem like much, but this is like the third time just this year that Ford has talked about Indiana Jones. In an interview with Hitflix just a few weeks ago, he went out of his way to express his desire to play the character for a fifth time (sixth if you count his TV series cameo).

“Would I? Yeah, I would be happy to do another. If we came up with a good script, I’d be happy to do it,” he beamed.

In fact, in the years since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Ford has said that he’d be willing to play his iconic character in almost every major interview he has given. How close is he to just coming out and demanding a script? Who knows, but the brains behind the franchise are nowhere close to a fifth film.

The franchise has pretty much stalled, and not because of Shia LaBeouf. George Lucas said in 2011 that he had a new story laid down, but that he lacked a MacGuffin like the Ark, the Holy Grail, or the odious Crystal Skull for Indy to go after.

“I really haven’t found the MacGuffin yet,” Lucas said. “I mean, I know what it’s about, but I just have to find a MacGuffin that fits into the arena we’re working in.”

Additionally, producer Frank Marshall, who has been with the franchise since Raiders, said that he doesn’t think there will be another film.

“I say, for me, [‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ is] the last hurrah,” he said. “I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea; there’s no MacGuffin.”

In all honesty, a fifth Indiana Jones film will probably never be made. But if George Lucas is open to suggestions for his MacGuffin, we’d say stray from the campy sci-fi premise and grab a supernatural item that would require Shia LaBeouf’s death in order to resurrect Sean Connery’s character.

Just a suggestion.

Are you with Harrison Ford? Would you go see a fifth Indiana Jones film?
