Al Roker Oversleeps, Misses Taping Of His Own Show


Al Roker picked the wrong day to sleep in.

The weatherman and popular television personality missed his phone alarm Tuesday morning, causing him to miss his own morning show — the now ironically named Wake Up With Al.

He had figured out the mistake by the time he needed to show up for his Today duties, but still earned some ribbing from his co-hosts. On the show Matt Lauer joked that they should change the name of the show to Al, Wake Up!

All in all, it’s been a rough few months for the affable television host. In January he made a very public admission about a mishap during a 2002 visit to the White House.

Al Roker, who just had gastric bypass surgery before the visit, admitted he accidentally pooped his pants when he gambled on a fart and lost.

Roker told MSNBC: “When you have a bypass and your bowels [have] been reconstructed, you think you’re pretty safe. And I probably went off and ate something I wasn’t supposed to. And as I’m walking to the press room. I gotta pass a little gas here. I’m walking by myself. Who’s gonna know? Only a little something extra came out. I pooped my pants. Not horribly, but enough that I knew.”

Al Roker was pretty forthright about Tuesday’s accident as well. When he did wake up, nearing the show’s 6 am start time, he admitted his mistake on Twitter.

Al poked more fun at the incident in a Vine sent later from the Today show set.

As Entertainment Weekly reported, Al Roker wasn’t the only one in the NBC family to have alarm clock trouble this week. Fellow host Willie Geist also overslept on Monday.
