Tropical Storm Henriette Now A Hurricane

Tropical storm Henriette is now a hurricane.

The storm is currently far from land, about 1600 miles southeast of Hawii and is moving northwest at about 10 mph. The storm now has sustained winds near 75 mph.

Tropical Storm Henriette may get a little stronger today but the storm is expected to start weakening by Wednesday as it enters cooler waters.

Henriette is currently traveling toward Hawaii, but it is too early to tell if the state will be effected. UPI notes that the hurricane’s projected path does not include any land at the moment but tropical storm Henriette may brush past Hawaii.

AccuWeather reports that it would be very unusual for Henriette to hit Hawaii since the state has already dealt with one tropical storm.

AccuWeather.com writes: “As discussed during Flossie’s existence, just one tropical storm or hurricane reaching Hawaii in a year is a rare feat in itself… Only once since 1950 have two named storms, with tropical storm or hurricane strength, passed within 75 miles of Hawaii. Gilma and Iwa from 1982 make up that rare occurrence.”

Hawaii may also see a threat from tropical storm Gil. The storm is currently about 1200 miles east of Honolulu and is moving west at 9 mph.
