Fans of Cyclops will have to learn to live without the character in director Bryan Singer’s upcoming superhero epic X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Although the guy was missing in action during Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, many were wondering if he would figure into the plot of next year’s sequel. However, former Cyclops James Marsden recently revealed that the superhero won’t make an appearance in the sequel.
“If this next film really works, Bryan has said he wants to fix a few things, so hopefully [Cyclops] is one of them,” the actor revealed while promoting his latest flick 2 Guns.
He added, “I always liked Cyclops, but they have a lot of characters that they have to parcel out, spend time with each one, make sure everyone feels like they’ve been given their due, introduce them appropriately.”
Spoiler alert: One of the problems the filmmaker wants to fix is the character’s untimely demise in Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand. Since Singer isn’t a fan of how things worked out in that film, he’s reportedly going to attempt to correct those issues moving forward.
Although Cyclops isn’t returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past, James Marsden seems somewhat confident that the character will return in a future installment of the franchise. Since this writer is particularly fond of the superhero, here’s hoping Singer figures out how to “fix a few things.”
Marsden’s absence will most certainly be felt considering a number of his X-Men co-stars are returning for the follow-up. Included among the cast are series veterans Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, and Halle Berry.
Fans of the former 30 Rock star can catch the actor on the big-screen alongside Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in 2 Guns. The film is in theaters right now.
