Simon Cowell On X Factor: Season Two Wasn’t A Fun ‘Dinner Party’

Simon Cowell claims he knew from “day one” that The X Factor’s season two panel wasn’t going to work out.

During his appearance at the Television Critics Association press tour, the former American Idol judge discussed why the second season of his latest singing competition didn’t pan out. Cowell claims he had a hunch from the get-go that things weren’t going to gel.

“It’s like having a dinner party, you know. You invite people for dinner, and sometimes it’s a fun night. Other times, it’s not as much fun as you thought it was going to be,” Simon Cowell explained to reporters on Thursday.

Last season’s so-called “dinner party” consisted of Britney Spears, Cowell, Demi Lovato, and L.A. Reid. Cowell said he was ready to get going with season three so he could get the show back on track.

“I felt we were doing what everybody else was doing and I had this impatience to get on to season three so we could do what we wanted to do,” he said.

Now that Spears and Reid have bid farewell to The X Factor, Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland are stepping in to take their place. Judging from Simon Cowell’s comments on the matter, he’s pretty happy with the changes.

“This [season] is a fun dinner party. You have to be competitive, and you have to make changes. I work hard. It makes it fun. I’d love to be number one,” he said.

One thing Simon Cowell didn’t discuss duing the TCA Summer Tour was his rumored relationship with New York socialite Lauren Silverman. According to various reports, Silverman is currently pregnant with Cowell’s child. However, he decided to avoid this issue altogether.

“I haven’t read the newspapers. Am I missing something?” he joked. “Unfortunately, I have to keep this for the moment private. It’s just one of those things.”
