Mom Charged With Child Pornography Involving Her Own Children

Chesapeake, VA — A Chesapeake woman was charged with using her own children to make child pornography Wednesday.

Kanealeen Latouche was arrested July 26 and charged with 30 felony counts of child pornography involving her two children, a boy and a girl. According to The Virginian Pilot, the charges include eight counts of production of child pornography, five counts of aggravated sexual battery, and two counts of sodomy.

According to arrest warrants, the 22-year-old sexually abused her children — ages two and three — and used them to make child pornography. The documents also said that Latouche planned to sell the pornography.

It is unknown why police began investigating Latouche in the first place, and it remains unclear what evidence they found.

Chesapeake police said Latouche’s case is the first incident of child porn involving a mother and child since the department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit was established in 2010.

However, John Shehan, an executive direcor with the National Center for Exploited and Missing Children in Alexandria, Virginia, said that Latouche’s case wasn’t particularly unique.

“There are people out there sexually abusing infants,” he said. Shehan said the abusers are often “people in positions of trust,” such as relatives, friends, or classmates.

Kanealeen Latouche is due back in court Friday for a bail hearing. A preliminary hearing was set for early December.

Because the investigation is still ongoing, police said they will not release any other information including the status of the children and where the crimes took place.

Todd Mchargue, who lives across the street from Latouche, said the young mother has lived in her apartment for about eight months. He said he had a feeling something was going on because there were also expensive cars parked in front of the house with people coming in and out.

“It’s like whenever you seen her outside, she was always on the phone like she was coming out of the house to use the phone, and it was like, it was a revolving door there,” he said.

Kanealeen Latouche remains in jail on the child pornography charges.
