Selena Gomez Lands First No. 1 Album


Selena Gomez new album Stars Dance has taken the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Gomez dethrones Jay Z and his album Magna Carta Holy Grail which has been at the No.1 spot for the last two weeks.

According to the NY Daily News, Gomez new album Stars Dance sold more than 97,000 albums in its first week. It is the singer’s first No.1 album.

Billboard.com reports that Gomez has grown more popular with each album. Her debut in 2009, Kiss And Tell, opened at the No. 9 spot with nearly 66,000 albums sold. The 2010 followup A Year Without Rain landed at the No.4 spot on its debut. The 2011 album When The Sun Goes Down also debuted at No.4 but ended up climbing to the No. 3 spot after selling 78,000 in its opening week.

Now, with Stars Dance, Selena Gomez has finally reached the No. 1 spot.

Gomez said: “This is my fourth record and I work really hard on my music, so to have the first No. 1 is really humbling. I feel like ‘Come & Get It’ was a great surprise. People didn’t expect that kind of feel from me in that different genre of music. I really opened myself up to try different sounds with my music.”
