‘Super Smash Bros.’ Petition Calls For Reggie Fils-Aime To Be A Playable Character

Nintendo’s upcoming Super Smash Bros. sequel already features a number of characters from a wide variety of games, but some gamers want a real character in the game – Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

This group of gamers want Fils-Aime in the game so much, in fact, that a petition to include him in the game has been started over on Change.org (via Polygon). Before you ask, no, this isn’t a joke.

If we’re being honest, we’re glad it isn’t.

“Reggie Fils-Aime, president and COO of Nintendo of America, is very popular in the gaming world, and he shot to fame in E3 2004 with his opening line: ‘My name is Reggie. I’m about kickin’ ass, I’m about takin’ names, and we’re about makin’ games.’ His humorous quotes and theatrical antics have made him into a gaming celebrity,” the petition reads.

The Regginator, as he’s lovingly called by Nintendo fans, is apparently open to the idea. In a segment on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Fils-Aime answered questions from Twitter uses about the Wii U and, at the very end, whether or not he would be open to being a playable character in Super Smash Bros. The answer, in short, was “yes.”

“Great question,” said Fils-Aime. “You have to ask that to [game creator Masahiro Sakurai]. He’s the producer of the game, it’s his game. But if he wants, my body is ready.”

Fils-Aime making an appearance in Super Smash Bros. isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility. Several bizarre picks for the roster have already been announced, including the Wii Fit Trainer. and the Animal Crossing Villager. The Regginator seems like a natural progression from there.

Apart from signing the petition by heading to the link at the top of the post, you can do your part in spreading the word. The petition goes on to say:

“To raise awareness about this, please use the hashtag #ReggieForSmashBros and Tweet to @Sora_Sakurai to let him know about this petition. Also Tweet to @NintendoOfAmerica, @NintendoEurope, and @NintendoUK ; and post about this on Miiverse to prove to Nintendo that Reggie deserves a spot on the roster.”
