Streetcar Shooting Of Sammy Yatim By Police Officer Draws Protests [Video]

The streetcar shooting of the teenage Sammy Yatim by a police officer has generated protests numbering hundreds of people.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, supposedly fake cops in Detroit robbing people have turned out to be real cops.

The streetcar shooting doesn’t involve fake cops. Nor was it a fake knife that Sammy Yatim was wielding. But when the teen pulled the knife in a streetcar the passengers emptied out and the police came in. When Sammy Yatim wouldn’t put down his knife the police officer demanded, “If you take one step in this direction with that foot, [inaudible] die.” Sammy Yatim apparently didn’t listen and in response he was shot nine times in 13 seconds by the police officer. Even after being shot, other police officers tasered Sammy Yatim while he was on the ground.

Some people are saying the cop overreacted and that the taser should have been used first. Others point out they could have prevented the streetcar shooting by potentially talking Sammy Yatim down.

The streetcar shooting upset people to the point the police officer was suspended with pay while the streetcar shooting was investigated. The police officer suspended for the streetcar shooting is said to be “devastated” and overwhelmed. Toronto police chief Bill Blair calls the streetcar shooting tragic:

“I am aware of the very serious concerns the public has. I know that people are seeking answers as to what occurred, why it happened and if anything could have been done to prevent the tragic death of this young man. I am also seeking answers to these important questions.”

Hundreds gathered in Toronto for a streetcar shooting protest. They chanted slogans like “we want justice” while carrying placards and wearing T-shirts.
