Hudson River Boating Accident: Bride-To-Be From Piermont, N.Y., Killed

A tragic boating accident occurred on the Hudson River today. A boat with members of a wedding party on board struck a barge. The bride-to-be, from Piermont, N.Y., was killed, and the best man is missing.

Rockland County Sheriff’s Chief William Barbera told CNN that they had found the body of Lindsay Stewart about 600 feet from the river bank. They were still searching for Mark Lennon, the best man. Both of them had been flung out of the Stingray power boat when it collided with the barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Four other members of the party were injured in the Hudson River boating accident, including the bridegroom, who suffered damage to his eye. It was not known whether Stewart and Lennon were wearing life jackets,

Rockland County Undersheriff Robert Van Cura said,”The river at night is very dark, and even knowing the barges are there, they are difficult to locate until you are very close.”

The family were told of the tragedy early on Saturday. Walter Kosik, Stewart’s stepfather, told CNN, “That’s a nightmare I don’t wish on any parent — police coming over to your house waking you up out of your sleep to tell you an accident has occurred.” He also said that Stewart and her fiance were a pair of workaholics “so I know they were planning a good future together.”

Carol Stewart, the bride’s mother, told a CNN affiliate station that her daughter had been collected by some friends in the boat, but she had not told her their plans. She said, “She’s supposed to be married two weeks from today,” Carol Stewart said. “It just can’t end like this.”

The Hudson River boating accident, which sadly ended the life of Lindsay Stewart, from Piermont, N.Y., is being investigated by authorities. The outcome of the investigation will be known in the next few days.
