Selena Gomez Unwraps Justin Bieber Saga: The Media ‘Blow It Up’

If Selena Gomez’s relationship with Justin Bieber has seemed a bit too melodramatic of late, even by celebrityville’s standards, the lady herself agrees.

Currently on the promotional trail in support of her just dropped Stars Dance album and upcoming same named tour, the 21-year-old offered her take on the media frenzy that surrounds the former couple in a new interview.

Asked if blogs and gossip sites hype up her relationship with Bieber, the starlet told the Associated Press.

“I think they do kind of blow it up in a way and I do think they want to have something to talk about, so that’s the easy thing to do… I’ve known him for a really long time and we enjoy each other’s company every now and then.”

“But I’m definitely single and enjoying being that,” she added.

Although the Spring Breaker’s star recently confirmed that she and Bieber are not currently dating Gomez has made it clear in subsequent interviews that she is still friends with the Canadian.

Earlier this week the brunette cut short a satellite one-on-one with Chicago’s WGN TV station after she was bombarded with inflammatory Bieber questions. During an appearance on Good Morning America on Friday, she replied to queries about her ex-beau saying:

“That’s because he and I have had such a history together and I’ll always care about him and protect him if anybody tries to be mean.”

Echoing previous comments about the difficulties of life in the spotlight, Selena told AP:

“I attempt to be who I am and it’s fun. At the same time, growing up doing what I’m doing can be a little crazy. You don’t ever know, and obviously I have my off days. I’m not perfect. I make mistakes.”

She continued: “My mum always told me if I love what I’m doing and I’m having fun then just continue to do it. But if it’s not fun for me any more and I’m miserable, then I’m going to go back to Texas and quit it all, to be honest.”

Gomez’s latest album Stars Dance has so far spawned one hit single “Come and Get It” and mixed to mostly poor reviews, but some analysts believe the album could hit the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart next week.

The star kicks off her 56-city tour in Vancouver on August 14 and wraps in St. Louis on November 27. Of her latest musical outing, the busy Latina reveals:

“The last records… were very processed and a little bit rushed in a way, so the fact that I had so much time to share my life story and just where I am was really fun for me.”

Gomez and Bieber began dating in 2010 but went public at a Vanity Fair Oscar’s part in February 2011. After first splitting up in November 2012, they reunited and broke up again in December and since.

The starlet accompanied the “Baby” singer along some of his European Believe tour dates in April and the pair were later seen together in friendly looking Instagrams as recently as July 5 — albeit, all of them were posted by Bieber.

But, for now, it seems Jelena is no more. Until the next Instagram, at least.

Gomez Performed “Save the Day,” “Birthday,” “Love You Like A Song,” “Come and Get It,” and “Slow Down” at iHeartRadio’s Coca-Cola Summer Concert Series at the iHeartRadio Theatre on Thursday, July 25 in New York City.
