James McAvoy Signs On For ‘Frankenstein’

James McAvoy will star alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the upcoming 20th Century Fox adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein. Gothic horror just got a lot dreamier.

The Wanted star has reportedly signed on to play Victor Von Frankenstein in director Paul McGuigan upcoming feature. Negotiations are said to be underway at this very moment.

Radcliffe, meanwhile, has been tapped to portray Igor in the flick. It should be incredibly interesting to see these two talented actors play off one another.

James McAvoy wasn’t the only guy up for the role in McGuigan’s Frankenstein. The Filth star beat out both Jack Huston and Toby Kebbell for the coveted role.

Not surprisingly, this isn’t the only adaptation of Mary Shelley’s iconic horror novel that is currently coming together in Hollywood. Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro is said to be working on his own version of the classic tale.

The Inquisitr reported earlier this month that the director was interested in getting Star Trek Into Darkness star Benedict Cumberbatch to play a role in the flick.

However, not much information about that particular project is making the rounds as of this writing. Del Toro stopped short of saying which role he was interested in having the British actor portray in his film.

There is certainly no shortage of Frankenstein adaptations available on the market. If you’re interested in a more serious take on the story, then James Whale’s 1931 adaptation and Kenneth Branagh’s slightly misguided version are probably the best way to go.

James McAvoy fans currently have a number of motion pictures to check out while they’re are waiting for 20th Century Fox’s production to hit theaters. In addition to X-Men: Days of Future Past, the actor will appear in writer-director Jon S. Baird’s Filth.
