Aubrey Plaza Stars As MTV’s Daria In Live Action Movie Trailer

Aubrey Plaza was once picked by MTV as the dream casting to play Daria, the wry teenager from the popular cartoon series of the 1990s, and now she’s bringing the character to life for real.

Plaza was featured in a trailer for a live-action Daria movie, one that shows what happens if the teen character grew up and got a job. Though it doesn’t feature the rest of MTV’s dream casting — which would be Ellen Page as her best friend Jane, Emily Osment as her bubbly sister Quinn, and Will Ferrell and Annette Bening as her parents — it’s still right on the mark.

Before Daria fans get too excited about Aubrey Plaza playing the lead role, here is the hitch — the trailer is fake, and there’s no real movie coming out. The trailer was created by College Humor, which has created other “what if” movie trailers, like one for a live action Dora the Explorer movie.

Aubrey Plaza does have a real movie coming out this weekend, the teen sex comedy The To-Do List. In the movie the 29-year-old actress plays an inexperienced teenager trying to get more sexual experienced under her belt before she leaves for college.

The film was a bit of a stretch or Plaza, who had her first sex scene, one that called for her to simulate a number of sexual acts.

“It was a nightmare,” she told the New York Times. “I was like, this is the weirdest acting job I’ve ever had in my life.”

The Parks And Recreation actress appeared in another short film popular on the internet, only this one was for real. Earlier this year she was featured alongside Michael Cera in Failure, a short romantic comedy about a man who stumbles across a woman occupying the steps in his home. Cera also directed the short film.

After the popularity of the Daria trailer, fans of the cult favorite MTV cartoon may want Aubrey Plaza to jump into the role for real.
