Gonzalo Higuain And Pepe Reina Pass Napoli Medicals, Set To Be Unveiled On Monday

Gonzalo Higuain and Pepe Reina have both passed their medicals at the Italian club Napoli, and will be unveiled to fans on Monday evening.

Aurelio De Laurentiis, the side’s president, made the announcement via his Twitter page, writing, “Higuain and Reina have passed their medicals and will soon join the rest of the group. On Monday there will be a big party at the San Paolo. You will be able to get to know the new players and the new shirts.

Higuain will be purchased from Real Madrid, where he has been plying his trade for the last six seasons. During this time he has notched 107 league goals, which lead to the Italian team deciding to spend $53million on the Argentinian striker.

Reina is moving to the club from English giants, Liverpool, and when he arrives he will be reunited with his ex-manager, Rafael Benitez. During their time together in Liverpool, Reina and Benitez won the FA Cup. The Spanish shot stopper will be at the club on a season long loan deal.

It has been reported by Gazzetta, that Higuain was mobbed by fans Rome’s Fiumicino airport when he emerged from the terminal wearing a Napoli scarf.

Pepe Reina’s agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon, also told the Italian sports paper, “He’s happy to reunite with Benitez because he’s known him for over five years from their time in Spain and England, and they worked very well together.”

Higuain has been linked to a number of clubs since he made it clear that he planned to leave the Bernabeu towards the end of the 2012/2013 season. Both Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain were considering bids for the player. Whilst Reina has been dislodged as the number one goalkeeper at Liverpool by the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland.

Napoli have already bought Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon and Raul Albiol from PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid respectively this summer.
