Lindsey Gort is taking on one of television’s most iconic characters when she portrays Samantha Jones, the strong-willed and fiercely independent character from Sex In The City, but she’s got some important backing.
Lindsey Gort will play a teenage Samantha in The CW’s The Carrie Diaries in Season 2. Though it may be a big role for a relatively unknown actress, Gort has the approval of the woman who brought Samantha to life, actress Kim Cattrall.
“So happy u’re playing Fearless Sam,” Cattrall tweeted. “The key 2 her is her heart. She never judges those she loves. Have a blast! Kimx”
Gort seemed thrilled to have Cattrall’s blessing in the role.
“Thank you so much! what fabulous, amazingly sexy shoes to fill xoxo,” Gort tweeted back to Cattrall.
Gort’s acting resume includes mostly stage projects, short films, and a series of television appearances. She also has three movies in various stages of production, though plays only small parts in two of them.
The CW seems to see big things in Lindsey Gort, though. The network touted her addition to the show this week, saying she will portray “a ballsy, beautiful and sexy young woman from the panhandle of Florida who has made her way — and already a name for herself — in the rock ‘n’ roll scene of 1980’s NYC.”
Amy Harris, executive producer of The Carrie Diaries, said Gort stood out in the auditions for the part.
“In another nerve-wracking search to create the amazing characters we all came to know and love on ‘Sex and the City,’ we went out in search this year for a young Samantha Jones,” Harris said in a statement. “Lindsey Gort walked into the room and owned the part. Funny and sexy with a whiff of vulnerability and an amazing dash of outrageousness, Lindsey is our exciting choice to play the young Samantha Jones.”
Lindsey Gort makes her debut on The Carrie Diaries on October 25.
