‘Gran Turismo’ Movie Coming Together At Sony

A Gran Turismo movie is currently in the works at Sony Pictures.

Since Universal Pictures proved that moviegoers love watching movies featuring lots of fast cars, the studio has decided to move forward with an adaptation of the popular video game.

The Gran Turismo movie is being produced by Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti. The pair is also responsible for spearheading the big-screen version of the mommy porn novel Fifty Shades of Grey. Fans of the game are no doubt rolling their eyes right about now.

There’s currently no information available regarding who will handle the script or direct the feature. Casting rumors are non-existent as well. Considering the game itself doesn’t follow a specific story, it will be interesting to see what sort of plot the filmmakers will throw together.

Developed by Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Studios, Gran Turismo is one of the biggest franchises from the Playstation. The series has sold over 70 million copies worldwide. However, it remains to be seen if the game’s popularity will translate into box office success.

The success of Fast and Furious 6 has prompted a number of studios to move forward with their own car-oriented action flicks. DreamWorks Pictures is presently putting together an adaptation of Need for Speed starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Michael Keaton, Dominic Cooper, and Imogen Poots.

Sony Pictures is also working on Go Fast, a movie featuring DEA agents and the speedboats they use to track down criminals. Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is currently attached to the picture.

While Need for Speed has the potential to be a pretty big hit, Fast and Furious 6 succeeded because of its cast. Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson are huge box office draws, so these studios may have a hard time convincing folks to buy a ticket if they don’t have the star power behind the wheel.
