Christina Aguilera Is Worst National Anthem Singer Ever, Americans Say

Christina Aguilera should stay away from the National Anthem from now on.

A survey conducted by iHeartRadio Insights found that Aguilera is the worst National Anthem of all time for her rendition at the 2011 Super Bowl. The singer received 35.9 percent of the vote, beating out Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler who came in second for his version the following year at the AFC Championship Game.

For those who don’t remember, Aguilera made a major mistake during her over-the-top performance. Instead of singing, “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming,” she sang “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.”

It was especially strange given the fact that Aguilera has performed the anthem at dozens of events. In the announcement for the Super Bowl she even noted how experienced she was at the National Anthem.

“I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true,” she said.

But this actually wasn’t the first time that Christina Aguilera fumbled the “Star Spangled Banner”. In 2010 she was picked to sing the anthem before Game 6 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. Again she tripped over the words, appearing to start a new lyric just before “through the perilous fight” (though it may have been explained as a bit of oversinging).

Here is where Aguilera ranks, along with the rest of the worst National Anthem singers ever: 1. Christina Aguilera (2011 Super Bowl): 35.9 percent; 2. Steven Tyler (2012 AFC Championship Game) 24.7 percent; 3. Kat DeLuna (2008 NFL Game): 13.1 percent; 4. Michael Bolton (2003 ALCS) 9.6 percent; 5. Scott Stapp of Creed (2005 NASCAR Ford 400): 9.0 percent; 6. Luke Bryan (2012 MLB All-Star Game): 7.6 percent.

The survey was taken from iHeartRadio’s “active listener” population, but Billboard found different results when it asked the same question last year. In that poll, Kat DeLuna was named the worst of all time.

Whether it’s Christina Aguilera or Kat DeLuna as the worst National Anthem singer at all the time, the real question is how did Roseanne Barr get off the hook so easily?
