Nintendo Wii gets itself a new controller

The image above first appeared on the site of games retailer GameSpot, and shows the boxart for upcoming Wii title FlingSmash. Nothing unusual about that, but here’s something: it appears to show a new variation on the standard Wii controller.

Dubbed “Wii Remote Plus”, this new controller supposedly includes on-board Wii MotionPlus technology. If you recall, Nintendo released Wii MotionPlus last year. Delivering more precise motion control, it was originally sold as a separate dongle that attached to a standard Wii Remote.

What this new controller seems to do is integrate Wii MotionPlus into the pad, eliminating the need for an expensive add-on. It’s about time, really, so well done Nintendo.

Nintendo itself is publishing FlingSmash, which just got delayed until November. When it does appear, you’ll be able to pick up the game and your very own Wii Remote Plus for a penny under fifty bucks. Nintendo has yet to officially confirm the existence of a new Wii wand, but the evidence seems pretty overwhelming here.
