‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Villain Rumor Shot Down By Director

Director Marc Webb shot down a pretty major Amazing Spider-Man 2 rumor in a recent interview, and told fans not to worry about all the villains included in the highly-anticipated sequel.

Fans have long speculated that actor Colm Feore might have been brought on to play Adrian Toomes, who, in the comics, turns out to be the villainous Vulture. But fans holding out for a build-up to the Sinister Six might be disappointed to know that Webb shot down the rumor immediately.

“No. He’s not playing that guy,” Webb said.

Feore’s role in the film is still a closely-guarded secret, and fans will note that Webb specifically said “that guy,” meaning that the actor’s casting as a potential Spidey villain is still on the table. Plus, we’ve all been lied to before (see: Star Trek Into Darkness).

It’s probably all for the best anyway, as the villain roster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is already looking a little full. You have Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti’s Rhino, and rumor has it, Chris Cooper’s Green Goblin will appear in some capacity as well.

In a separate interview with MTV, Webb told fans not to worry about too many villains appearing in the film.

“These movies are sort of on-going, and there are hints and teases of what’s going to unfold in the future, but we were very focused on that simple conflict between Spider-Man and Electro.”

As for Giamatti’s Rhino, “Rhino, of course, is in the movie, as a lot of people know, but that’s a little bit of a tease,” he said. “It fits into the movie in a very elegant way.”
