‘Chronicle’ Sequel Moving Forward Without Max Landis

Twentieth Century Fox is moving forward with a sequel to the unconventional superhero flick Chronicle. Unfortunately for fans of the movie, the follow-up will happen without writer Max Landis.

Director Josh Trank’s 2012 drama follows the adventures of three high school students who gain superhuman powers after discovering something remarkable underground. It doesn’t take long for these new-found abilities to take over their entire lives.

According to Digital Spy, Chronicle 2 is still moving forward at 20th Century Fox. However, the studio is reportedly unhappy with the direction writer Landis was taking with the project. As a result, other writers are being brought in to pen the flick.

“I’ve been off ‘Chronicle 2’ for months now. Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series, Josh was never attached,” Landis recently explained on Twitter.

He added, “The truth is, when you’re successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That’s like more than half the job.”

Instead of tackling the Chronicle sequel, Max Landis is currently working on his directorial debut Me Him Her. Although a follow-up to the 2012 adventure will likely happen, none of the people who helped make the flick a reality are going to be involved.

The Wrap reports that Josh Trank is currently involved with the Fantastic Four reboot that’s taking shape at 20th Century Fox. Although a sequel to Trank’s $12 million superhero outing is going to happen, a director hasn’t been approached to helm the sequel as of this writing.

It’s not surprising that the studio is interesting in moving forward with a sequel. Chronicle ended up bringing home $126 million worldwide during its theatrical run. This figure doesn’t include the substantial amount of cash the movie made on Blu-ray and DVD. Despite the interest in the project, Fox hasn’t set a release date for the follow-up just yet.

Are you disappointed that the Chronicle sequel is happening without Max Landis?
