Hugh Jackman Gets Naked At Japanese Spa, Locals Offended

Hugh Jackman offended quite a few locals when he decided to get naked at a Japanese spa.

The star of director James Mangold’s upcoming summer flick The Wolverine decided to take some time off from shooting to visit a local spa. Although Jackman apparently has no trouble getting naked around other people, the locals weren’t exactly impressed with his decision to let it all hang out.

IBN Live reports that Hugh Jackman didn’t realize he was offending anyone until someone inside the spa alerted him to the problem. The actor said he was just trying to cool down when he accidentally flashed his privates to the other spa patrons seated around him.

“I was getting so hot and I’m using the towel they gave me to dip into the cold water and put it on my head, and I was getting very strange looks from everybody,” the actor explained during a recent interview.

Jackman continued, “I was feeling uncomfortable and finally this guy in the tub grunts and points to my head and then grunts and points to my private parts. Finally, I realized the towel was meant to be covering my privates.”

According to the Japan Daily Press, walking around a public spa completely naked is a cultural taboo. Unfortunately for the Les Miserables star, he didn’t realize the problem until someone brought it to his attention.

“I’d spent about an hour just waltzing around this place with this thing in one hand and a beer in my other!” he explained.

Hugh Jackman spent quite a bit of time in Japan filming The Wolverine. Not only does the country serve as a backdrop for the story, the film also features a number of Japanese actors and actresses. Rila Fukushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto, and Hal Yamanouchi co-star in the film.

What do you think about Hugh Jackman walking around naked inside a Japanese spa? Are you planning to catch The Wolverine when it lands in theaters on July 26?
