Father Of Two Dies Five Kilometres Into First Ride On Harley Davidson

A father of two who pined to own a Harley Davidson for over 40 years finally fulfilled his life long dream to purchase the bike, only to die five kilometers into his first drive on the chopper.

Barry Strang had pestered his wife, Pam, for close to four decades to own the Harley, and she only finally caved into his demands because he was now entering semi-retirement.

The 59-year-old, who lived in Casper, Wyoming, constantly stated that owning the bike was on his bucket list, and, then, when he finally purchased the vehicle, he decided to post a picture of it on Facebook. Forty minutes later, he would be dead.

Strang set off on his first ever ride on the bike, but then only five kilometres into the ride he crashed into a truck and then died. Mr Strang had left the dealership where he purchased the bike from before colliding with the axle of a truck on a bend and going under its wheels. The force of the collision lead to his helmet landing 30 feet away.

Sergeant Steve Townsend, a Wyoming Highway Patrol officer, revealed that the crash was the result of Mr Strang’s unfamiliarity with the motorbike.

He stated, “The cause of the crash remains under investigation and troopers are investigating unfamiliarity with the motorcycle as a contributing factor. Strang had just purchased the motorcycle brand new and had driven a distance of 3 miles when he was involved in the crash.”

Despite the death of her husband of 38 years, Pam Strang, remained philosophical, stating, “It was something he wanted his whole life. It’s like my son said, ‘Dad went out with the biggest smile on his face.'”

Pam revealed that she had feared the worst on the day that he collected the Harley Davidson, and she was even caught up in the traffic jam that was a result of the crash.
