2010 Boston Bruins Preview

It wasn’t all that long ago that the Boston Bruins had a 3-0 lead in a playoff series. Then there was an epic collapse, and the team headed into the off season with a questionable future. They spent the off season adding weapons to the offense and it looks like the Boston Bruins will be ready to make a big splash in the coming NHL season. Of course success this season will be marked by a deep playoff run only. Since they only averaged a NHL low 2.39 goals a game the offensive upgrade was surely needed.

Claude Julien will be the head Coach and he is entering his 4th year behind the bench for the Bruins. In that time he has compiled a overall record of 133-78-35. Julien runs a hard checking system that encourages his defensemen to pinch along the offensive blue line. General Manger Peter Chiarelli still has a lot of faith in him, but new President Cam Neely will be keeping a close eye on him.

This team’s breakout candidate is LW Milan Lucic. He struggled last season with a 20 point output and a -7. However now he has Nathan Hornton on the same line and that should up his numbers significantly. Hornton is a hard hitting, potential big scoring RW that has spent the first six years of his career with the Florida Panthers.

Key Additions- RW Nathan Hornton, C Gregory Campbell, and LW Jeremy Reich

Key Subtractions- D Dennis Wideman, C Vladimir Sobotka, and G Dany Sabourin
