Cory Monteith Cause Of Death Remains Undetermined, Toxicology Reports Pending
Cory Monteith died Saturday in a Vancouver hotel room, and after an autopsy Monday authorities say they are no closer to knowing why the Glee star died.
Authorities in Canada said it could take several days for the results of a toxicology test to come in, but Vancouver police Sgt. Randy Fincham said nothing seemed to indicate a drug overdose. Police had already ruled out foul play.
Monteith struggled with addiction, completing a stint in rehab in April. He had also spoken openly about his troubles with drugs and alcohol in the past, saying family members had to stage an intervention when he was 19.
Police do know that Cory Monteith had spent Friday night out with friends, returning to his hotel room alone early on Saturday. Hours later hotel staff went to the room when Monteith failed to check out, and reports say he was very apparently dead when they opened the door.
The steps Cory Monteith had taken toward sobriety make the death seem even more perplexing. To start his stint in rehab Cory had to miss filming the final two episodes of Glee, but producers and his fellow actors applauded him for the decision to treat his addiction and gave Monteith their blessing.
Monteith’s death now casts a cloud of uncertainty over Glee. His character, Finn Hudson, was last seen studying to become a teacher. Sources say Glee producers have yet to decide how the show will proceed and how they will handle Monteith’s death.
“But it’s easy to say there will be a tribute episode, and the season will be dedicated in his honor,” a source close to production told Hollywood Life. “Cory will have a never-ending connection to the legacy of the show; it will be handled delicately and with the utmost respect. The whole situation is just completely awful, and those [issues] will be addressed … but its safe to say, in the current state people are in over his death, that it will take some time.”
Authorities said it would be several days at the earliest before they can determine exactly how Cory Monteith died.
