2010 New York Rangers Preview

The New York Rangers missed the playoffs last season by just one point. It was the first time since the lockout that they were not in the pot season. Given that fact the Rangers brain trust decided that only minor tweaks were needed to get this team back to the NHL playoffs this year. They may have a point as many feel that this team underachieved last year. However given the fact that three of their division rivals all improved significantly we have to wonder if this was teh right way to improve the team.

Head Coach John Tortorella, who has the most wins of any American born Coach in the league, has a great passion for this game. He likes his team to play an aggressive style, and that usually requires Goalie Henrik Lundqvist to stand on his head. There was a question of toughness on this team as it allowed Marian Gaborik pummeled last season the Rangers went out and got Derek Boogaard who some say is the toughest guy in the league today. It will be his job to retaliate when Rangers opponents try to beat on their stars.

The Rangers have a breakout performance candidate in Center Brandon Dubinsky. Last year he scored 20 goals with 44 points all while missing a month of playing time with a wrist injury. He may just be one of the best all around forwards on the Rangers roster.
