Carly Rae Jepsen Struggles With First Pitch [Video]

Carly Rae Jepsen rose to fame with her single “Call Me Maybe” and the 27-year-old has been making appearances around the world ever since. On Sunday, the Canadian musician stopped by the Tampa Bay Rays’ game to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, but her laughable attempt is now being called the worst of all-time.

Jepsen is a rising pop star and she’s no stranger to stepping out in front of thousands of fans. It wasn’t a full house in Tampa Bay on Sunday, but she certainly got everyone’s attention after completely botching the first pitch.

It all went wrong with the wind-up, which led to the terrible toss that never crossed home plate. Instead, the ball slowly rolled across the first base line before hitting a camera.

The video suggests that she let go of the ball too late, which ended with the errant throw. The game announcers couldn’t hold back and immediately began discussing the worst first pitches of all-time.

Carly Rae Jepsen can now be added to that list, but this wasn’t her first time on the baseball diamond. Earlier this season, Jepsen threw out the first pitch at Camden Yards for a Baltimore Orioles’ game and she did a pretty good job.

For starters, the pitched crossed the plate in the air and it was much more effective than her unsuccessful attempt on Sunday. There’s no telling if she’ll get another chance to redeem herself after the baffling pitch at Tropicana Field, but who wouldn’t want to see her throw again after this?

As noted in the video, she had the time to warm up before the pitch but it obviously didn’t pan out. Luckily for the Rays, her struggles on the mound didn’t carry over to the ball club as they went on to beat the Astros 5-0.

Have you ever seen a ceremonial first pitch that looked as bad as Carly Rae Jepsen’s attempt on Sunday in Tampa Bay?
